In The Distance
I stood in the rain waiting patiently for the Durango bound passenger train to come into view. This was the last passenger train of the day so hopefully it's going to be good even though it's raining. Having done a lot of photo charters on the Durango Silverton I pretty much knew where I would go to get the shot. I parked my car in Rockwood Colorado and walked to the location with a good view of the high line but wanted a view of the river to go with the train. I scrambled around the rocks looking for a good composition and could hear the whistle and smoke drifting into view. I found the composition and setup very quickly as the sounds were getting louder and then there it was the headlight came into view and I just kept my hand on the button knowing I am walking away with at least one winner.
When I got back to my home in Denver Colorado and I started going through the photographs from the trip on the Durango Silverton and got to this set of photos this was the one that stood out the most. I have printed this photograph in several sizes and it has become one of my top selling photographs. I guess it was worth scrambling around the rocks and standing in the rain for a train photograph on the high line. I hope this motivates you to get your photo in the rain
