Colorado & Southern engine number 9 was built in 1884 by the Cooke Locomotive works. Originally for the Denver South Park & Pacific RR. In 1889 it was sold to the Denver Leadville & Gunnison Railroad and in 1899 it became C&S number 9. It was mainly used for passenger service and pulled the last passenger train from Denver to Leadville and back to Denver in 1937. The engine was sold to the Black Hills Southern Railroad and in 1988 it was sold to the Colorado Historical Society. In 2006 it was restored by the Uhrich Locomotive works in Strasburg Colorado just in time for the 2006 season on the Georgetown Loop. C&S number 9 was finally at home on C&S rails. The locomotive proved to small to run passenger trains on the loop and is now on display with a rotary snow plow in Breckenridge Colorado.
