Rio Grande Ski Train

The first ski train to Winter Park Colorado started operation in 1940. The ski train was operated by the Denver Rio Grande Western Railroad ( DRGW ). The ski train provided weekend service from Denver to the Winter Park ski area. It operated until 1988 under the DRGW and then was sold to Ansco investment. Ansco operated the Ski Train until 2009. It was discontinued because of costs and started operation again in 2017 under Amtrak. It still is a popular ride and the trains are usually sold out from December until the first of March.
